SFV ACID

While I'm in the MOOD here's another 2012 favourite. Also out on 100% Silk.

ROLAND TINGS

Roland Tings' acid-flecked EP on 100% Silk is incredible. Constantly played at LSR CNTRL manors throughout summer 2012.

SUZANNE KRAFT

The new Suzanne Kraft record has been filling my ears with sweet honey over the past week.

LESLEY DUNCAN

A perfectly formed gem of a song. Olivia Newton-John did a beautiful cover of this also.

BANDA DO CASACO

A Portuguese Steeleye Span-style stomper. Featuring Rao Kyao.

TO ROCOCO ROT

Not sure if Robert Lippok's group are still going. Produced some very crisp-sounding instrumentals in their heyday.

MICHAEL OZONE

And one from 2012! Big fan of this tune out on ESP Institute.

SUNS OF ARQA

I had a tape in my early teens which had an appalling live Suns Of Arqa track on it that went on for 13 minutes. Smashing Pumpkins 'Spaceboy' was tacked on the end so I was constantly fast-forwarding through to it. I was unsure when I first gave this a listen quite recently but I think I like it. Evocative.

MARK ERIC

Sad surfer's anthem from Mark Eric. California streamin'.

PUGH ROGEFELDT

Sleepy time with Pugh.

HOLGER CZUKAY

Curious voyage by CAN savant, Holger. Taken from one of my all-time favourite records, 'On The Way To the Peak of Normal.'

THE IN CROWD

Romance reggae. Play these to a loved one. The piano intro to Baby My Love always reminds me of 'Pure Imagination' from the soundtrack to Charlie & The Chocolate Factory. Instant sobs.

STOMU YAMASHTA

A YMO meets Van Dyke Parks number from Japanese virtuoso, Stomu.

SEIGEN ONO

No paracetamol in the house so this absolute beauty is acting as a pain relief of sorts. Flirty accordion playing throughout.

JENNIFER LARA

Ladies do reggae best. Jennifer does it best of all the ladies. Therefore Jennifer is the best reggae artist ever.

AARON BROOMFIELD

A great video of Aaron Broomfield and his suave troop.

SUPER RAIL BAND

Bamako is best.

MAXINE SINGLETON

I've never actually heard 'You Can't Run From Love' in a club setting but if I did I can guarantee you everybody would be getting hugs and high-fives from Paddy San for its entire six minute duration. Maybe even snogs. Best boogie track ever?

ARTHUR LYMAN

While summer's still lingering on I figured I'd get as much sun-kissed music in as possible. Come November it'll no doubt be a non-stop Xasthur and Vatican Shadow party 'round here. And that I look forward to. For now I present exotica vibes-man and "King of Lounge", Arthur Lyman.

BADEN POWELL DE AQUINO

Not to be confused with the founder of the Scouts, Baden Powell de Aquino was a supremely nimble-fingered Brazilian guitarist and arranger. Like Luiz Bonfa and Laurindo Almeida, Baden Powell combined a heady mix of bossa nova, samba with classical elements to great effect. I love how Brazilian music often has a bittersweet feel and I feel Baden Powell was an absolute master at conveying this particular sensibility. Anyway, two tracks below, shitloads of tracks on vinyl, CD, MP3.
Source them.

XAVIER CUGAT

Workin' for the Yankee dollar...

EUMIR DEODATO

Eumir Deodato is a Brazilian musician and arranger who has worked with all the Brazilian greats and fair few non-Brazilian greats. The music posted below could be considered Rio-boogie music. The sun and good times permeate every note. Club Tropicana!

BARTON SMITH

Barton Smith gives the impression that the vultures are beginning circle overhead on this offering from 1982. More musicians should utilise the drum machine/woodwind combination.

KAWABATA MAKOTO

Beautiful guitar-webs spun by the Acid Mothers Temple band-leader and shaman. Props Carl Sagan!

JOHN DANKWORTH & CLEO LAINE

Some great out takes from John Dankworth's score to one of my all-time favourite films, The Servant. Joseph Losey's film features a spectacularly unnerving performance from Dirk Bogarde, the former Mr Matinee giving the household a good ol' polish meanwhile giving the master/servant divide a good ol' restructure. Great Pinter script. The soundtrack itself is hard to pin down (in fact I'm fairly certain it's not commercially available at all). Factgasm: The film features British folk innovator Davey Graham playing guitar ruefully in a bar scene. Also included below is the film's theme of sorts 'All Gone' as sung by Dankworth's wife, Cleo Laine. All feeling.

Thanks Matt!

SAINT-PREUX

High-5, Christian Langlade! Two tracks from Saint-Preux circa 1980 (Sexy Meteors) and 1972 (The Tempest). The first sees our man questing deep into the cosmos on a locomotive of arpeggios, the second sees him awaking on a hot, troubling isle where the drums thunder.

FERRANTE & TEICHER

The Gilbert & George of easy listening putting their nimble fingers to good use on John Barry's finest.

LEO KUPPER

I bought a compilation of Leo Kupper's electro-acoustic work a few years back but as sometimes happens I only began to really listen to it recently. Top guy. Really intriguing soundworld, particularly his 'Guitarra Cubana' pieces. Below is his Vangelis meets Parmegiani, 'Aerosons' from 1985 - listen on headphones to really lap up the slurps and whirrs. Leo Kupper began his journey down the electronic highway in Henri Pousseur's electronic music studio, Apelac in 1959. According to a short Sub Rosa biography he went on to found in 1967 the Studio de Recherches et de Structurations Electroniques Auditives

ARMAND FRYDMAN

Two pulsating wonders from Armand Frydman.

MALACHI

As the liner notes state "this collection of lengthy, acid-tinged folk instrumentals is one of the earliest psychedelic albums ever recorded." Cosmic.

AKIRA RABELAIS

'Round Midnight.

LARAAJI

I've been listening to Laraaji's Ambient 3: Day of Radiance again recently. It was released as part of Brian Eno's ambient series after Eno supposedly heard him playing in Washington Square Park. I first heard it as a teenager after borrowing it from my local library along with Harold Budd's The Room. My musical tastes at the time consisted mostly of Fugazi and Sebadoh, and so this music was a radical(ish) departure. Laraaji's zither creates magical waves like Alice Coltrane's harp meditations spiraling up into the cosmos. I'm pleased to see he's still making waves working with Blues Control on FRKWYS Vol. 8 - a great listen. Also worth tracking down his first record Celestial Vibration recorded under his birth-name, Edward Larry Gordon.

HARALD GROSSKOPF

Metallic synthesist Harald Bighead. Very Zuckerzeit-era Cluster.

GODLEY & CREME

Pitch shift mania courtesy of Godley & Creme. Manzanera on guitar? A very necessary sing-along also provided.
