UAKTI

Look within.

ROBERTO MUSCI & GIOVANNI VENOSTA

You can be certain that on every empty boulevard you will encounter the insistent sound of one-note panpipes. Beautiful cover art on this gem.

MAD MIKE

Mike Banks is on pretty epic form here.

PAUL HORN

Gorgeous flute brother.

JANA KOUBKOVA

Breathy adventures on a bossa theme.

KEVIN AYERS

Sorry to hear about Kevin Ayers. Inspiring chap.

MIKE & BRENDA SUTTON

I like to imagine Mike & Brenda were a married couple from Solihull who made slamming hits for the NYC clubs after getting back from their office jobs.

JALI NYAMA SUSO

The kora is such a beautiful sounding instrument. Saw Toumani Diabate play at Roskilde in a relatively intimate tent in the baking sun in 2005. He began the performance with a history lesson and then very gradually began adding layers and layers of glistening sound. Amazing. Toumani gets all the props. Give Jali a listen.

JOSE LE GALL

Tight rhythm section!

ELIAS RAHBANI

Lebanon not only has the best food, it also has Elias Rahbani.

JOHN TEJADA

So strong. So eery.

TODD RUNDGREN

6+ months in and still no Rundgren. Time to rectify.

LADY JUNE

I heard about Lady June through a Jim O'Rourke interview (as far as I recall) and stumbled across a copy of Linguistic Leprosy shortly after. It's not a record I've been able to totally engage with but 'The Letter' is a standout. She also made a few recordings with Davis Vorhaus (of BBC Radiophonic/White Noise fame) which are worth tracking down.

VAL STOECKLEIN

I think Val deserves a bit of a renaissance. Beautiful, heartfelt music.

DONALD BYRD

Was sad to hear Donald Byrd had passed away recently. Top guy.

MANDRE

Giddy little bit of robot funk from Michael Andre Lewis.

GESELLSCHAFT ZUR EMANZIPATION DES SAMPLES

Jan Jelinek can essentially do no wrong. Farben, (Ursula Bogner?) - all gold. I have a particular soft-spot for this incarnation. Were Martin Denny to release a record on Raster-Noton...

DEEP PURPLE

Fetch me my kaftan!

MICHAEL BROOK

A percussive beauty drifting across the plains. In collaboration with Eno & Lanois.

ANTONYM

Another gem from the Minimal Wave crowd. Perfect soundtrack to rain-spattered jaunts through Soho.

FRANCIS LAI

Erotic number from accordionist and composer, Francis Lai. Sexy atmospheres.

BRIDGET COOPER

Classic boogie track courtesy of Bridget Cooper.

DEXTER

Oh, golly! Forgot about this one. Vibraphone acid.

STEVE MOORE

Sweet hypnotism in the spirit of Manuel Gottsching. Features on the great new L.I.E.S compilation, 'American Noise.'

GINA X PERFORMANCE

Sashaying down the street at 2am. Produced by Zeus B. Held.

DAVID CROSBY

Taken from one of the best albums of the 1970s. Probably my favourite album cover - I've got three copies.

SLOWDIVE

Very hectic week. Time for a doze...
