LEISURE CENTRALE MIX 2

I've gone and surprised myself and made another mix in fairly quick succession to the last. Quite a flurry! This mix is somewhat inspired by what I imagine was going through Barry Manilow's mind when he was crafting 'Copacabana.' It's also my soundtrack to Tom Hanks' Cast Away - admittedly a film I've never seen, but a film that has wormed its way into my (sub)conscious one way or another.

CANDIDO

Haven't played this in a while. Unlike Craig David, Candido has someone else say his name throughout his songs. Music for sleepless summer nights.

WILLIAM S

Here's a nice slice of Trax house like a cool hose down.

COLIN NEWMAN

Confessional avant-pop from the Wire/Githead frontman. Really captivating. A bit Ian Brown-y in the vocals.

NOAH

Ooh, little gem here.

TAMIKO JONES

If I were a joyrider I'd always make sure I had a CD-R featuring this track to accompany my amyl nitrate fueled good times as I tore up and down the village high street.

WEATHER REPORT

One of the snazziest album covers in jazz funk. Jaco P works some giddy magic on this one. Don't fear the river people.

ANITA BAKER

So hot. Need the slow jams.

YUTAKA

You'd need an industrial blender to get anything smoother than this.

AL HIRT

Just back from the astoundingly beautiful Cinque Terre. This theme from 'Kismet' constantly running through my mind.

PAQUA

Paqua (Claremont 56) played a storming set at the Three Kings in Clerkenwell last night. Very nice arrangements by Mudd & Co. Reminded me a little of Crosby, Still & Nash in propulsion. Bit of Ottmar Liebert as well.

GROBSCHNITT

Emotional psych/prog from Germany. Sounds like a crisis of the heart being steadily (if not entirely) resolved. And yes, that is a sound.

ZE RENATO

Mr Renato is a Brazilian musician and this is a track taken from his 1984 LP 'Light & Mystery.'

SECRET BIRDS

Night travel. Insistent drums on this one. There's something about it that unsettles my innate Judeo-Christian sensibility. And like a good (lapsed) Catholic, I like it.
